For sixteen years David Roger Burton has been creating items using the reclaimed oak and copper from HMS Victory.
During that period he has saved what he calls ‘the special pieces’. Now that the programme is finished and no more material is available to work with, David is releasing for sale the final special pieces from his private collection.
The Staithe gallery is proud to present a special exhibition in the back "Black Room” with the title:
The exhibition has special pieces with a configuration of many layered paint colours. Based on the Admiralty order of 23rd November 1791 which states that red lead should no longer to be used as an undercoat suggests that they were in use on HMS Victory fourteen years before Trafalgar and part of the famous ship during the infamous battle.
